2. Buildings making part of the architectural heritage

The restoration of roofs will be carried out in two phases.

The first phase comprises the final works on the roofs contracted in 1999. This phase is planned to be completed in April 2000.

The second phase comprises roofs planned to be restored in 2000: 23 roofs with total surface of 3159 m2. They are situated in three zones of the historical centre of Dubrovnik, ranked by accessibility (concerning the transportation of material). The first group is hardly accessible and comprises 8 roofs with (724 m2). The moderately accessible group comprises 5 roofs (760 m2). Easily accessible group comprises 10 roofs (1675 m2).

The participation in the rehabilitation of the gutted palaces and houses comprises the termination of works stipulated in the contract concluded with the Ministry for Public Works, Construction and Renewal, namely the restoration of the stone elements of the gutted palaces and houses. The calendar of works will be dictated by the mentioned Ministry, therefore it will be necessary to ensure the funding as follows:

Od Puča 11 200.225,00 kn
Od Puča 17 – Široka 5 162.948,00 kn
Sv. Josipa 1 150.000,00 kn

The restoration of the stone cornice of the St.Blaise Church was contracted in 1999, and is planned to be completed in May 2000.

The funds planned for the repair of the Rector's Palace were defined after monitoring conducted in 1999 on the suggestion of the Expert Commission for Monitoring of the Rector's Palace.

The funds planned for documentation are intended for the elaboration of projects related to the Bishop's Palace and the Church of St. Jacob, architectural surveys of blocks and monitoring of the microclimate conditions in the underground of the Cathedral.

Work of the Institute for the Restoration of Dubrovnik in 2000

In 2000, the IRD is to be transformed from administrative organisation into a public institution. It involves the implementation of the stipulations of the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Law on the Rehabilitation of Dubrovnik's Endangered Architectural Heritage ("Narodne novine" No. 128/99) i.e. the establishment of the Administrative Council, the appointment of the Expert Advisory Commission, the signing of contracts between the founders of the IRD and between the IRD and its founders and, finally, the inscription of the IRD in the Court Register.

The Administrative Council has been appointed on the 16th of May 2000. The members are:

1. Antun VUJIĆ, Dr.sc., Minister of Culture
2. Božo KOVAČEVIĆ, Minister of Environment and Zoning
3. Rikard ROSETTI, Deputy Prefect of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County
4. Vido BOGDANOVIĆ, Mayor of Dubrovnik
5. Radomir ČAČIĆ, Minister of Public Works, Renewal and Construction

The Administrative Council has adopted the draft of the Contracts between the founders of the IRD (60% State, 20% County, 20% City) and between the IRD and the founders. It has also adopted the draft of the Statute.

The Expert Advisory Commission for the Rehabilitation of Dubrovnik has been appointed on the 16th of May 2000. The members are:

1. prof.dr. Igor FISKOVIĆ
2. Ferdinand MEDER, prof
3. prof.dr. Vladimir MARKOVIĆ
4. mr.sc. Egon LOKOŠEK
5. prof.dr. Mladen ŠĆITAROCI, representative of the Ministry of Environment and Zoning
6. dr.sc. Željko PEKOVIĆ, representative of the City of Dubrovnik
7. prof.dr. Nada GRUJIĆ
8. prof.dr. Giorgio CROCI
9. Bernard FONQUERNIE
10. prof.dr. Michael PETZET

In 2000, the ground floor of the IRD building is planned to be arranged as an Information and Documentation Centre. The photo exhibition "Dubrovnik..." by Damir Fabijanić would be displayed on permanent basis, while the current projects will be updated. The exhibition space is open to some ad hoc projects (exhibitions or sim.) related to the activity of the IRD.

The traditional presentation of the cities from the UNESCO's World Heritage List, organised annually (July 9) in conjunction with the Dubrovnik Summer Festival is planned in 2000 too, with the exhibition "Venetian Fortresses in the Levant", organised together with the Italian Cultural Centre in Zagreb.

The opening of the exhibition at IRD is also meant to promote the new IRD Indoc Centre.
